Overcoming Personal Patterns to Actualize Your "Next-Level" Self

Do you ever feel like there is something in your life you just can't quite nail down that is holding you back?  Can you visualize your future self, but not the steps in between the present moment and the future you imagine?  It's possible that you have personal patterns that are keeping you from reaching the next level.  This "next level" could be a career advancement, something about your relationship, your life goal, your art, or discovering what you're passionate about.  I don't know about you, but feeling STUCK is one of the worst feelings I have felt!  Especially when we are all so aware of time, and how quickly it passes.  We experience feelings of failure when our peers excel, even if we are glad for them.  One day you're 18, wishing you were 21 and then you're 25 wondering where the last five years went.  Some days all I can hear is "all we have is now, all we have is this moment!", and yet I just don't know what to do with the moment at hand.  It is possible to realize and overcome the road blocks we all face with the right tools.  First we realize what those bumps in the road are, then take ownership of them, and develop our self awareness to push through these potholes and obstructions.

Once I hit my 20's, my personal patterns started to become more evident.  Yes, I am messy.  I have one day a month in my woman cycle where I feel like I despise everything and everyone.  I have adult ADD.  I get overly excited and easily disappointed when I don't manage my own expectations.  I am naturally more emotional than logical.  I get complacent.  Sometimes I forget to check my ego or I let fear take control.  I've struggled with depression and anxiety.  Anything sound familiar?!  Well hey girl/boy; nobody has it completely figured out.  We all go through cycles.  Life is built on cycles and ups and downs.  We all form habits and patterns, good and bad, and as long a we are aware of our patterns and cycles, we can overcome them and create positive results!

Step one.  How do I know I have a bad habit or pattern?  I invite you to sit with yourself quietly for 30 minutes.  Ask yourself every single one of these questions and write down your answers!  What are the things in your life that feel like they are stuck on repeat?  Does someone close to you hint frequently about something that you do that bothers them?  Do you notice you feel the same way about something specific often?  What are the things that bother you the most about yourself and other people?  What things that you encounter on a day-to-day basis make you feel "uncomfortable" or totally stop you in your tracks?

Now that you have an idea of what triggers you (which you should after that series of questions), it's time to take ownership of your patterns and habits.  They are YOURS.  You are in control of your actions and reactions.  No one else will change them for you.

You have now realized the thing or things that are slowing you down.  Doesn't that feel like a HUGE accomplishment?  It has taken me years of battling myself and those close to me to learn to first recognize, and then control my ego while really learning how to SEE myself and how I impact those around me.  It continues to be a process and a series of mantras and affirmations and reminders I repeat every day, or as often as I can remember, to break through my barriers because I desire so badly to achieve MY positive outcomes :).  I still fail more often than I care to admit, but I believe the true key to all of this is knowing when you are falling back into an old behavior.  Lucky for me, I have an amazing husband who interminably helps remind me that I already am the person I want to become if I remain present and manage my patterns and habits.

Next step, life application.  The next time you start to "feel something" turn on your pattern detector and ask yourself why you're feeling it!  What does your inner "feels" voice sound like?  Is the reason you feel whatever you are feeling legit, or not?  When you question the legitimacy of your inner feels (in all seriousness) imagine your end goal or the future self you have imagined.  It is now your job to make sure that your reaction to the emotion you're experiencing points you towards your future self.  You have then achieved a step in the right direction, and you are doing amazing!  Now keep it going.

Just remember, we are all in this together!  Every time you solve a piece of the puzzle or create a new, good habit you are working towards your life's purpose.  Take each day as it comes and dream fearlessly my friends.

Besos!
