Better Than Starbies - Lemon Matcha Tea Latte Recipe
After a killer spin class downtown last weekend a friend and I took the Starbucks plunge to reward ourselves for all of our hard work--don't do it. I was immediately enticed by their new Citrus Green Tea Latte, but not remembering that everything at Starbucks comes with added sugar, unless you ask for unsweetened, I was a little disappointed. I felt it my duty to one-up the Starbies and re-create a healthier version of this beautiful beverage that you can make at home!
Here is my own dairy-free, sugar-free recipe with all of the fat-burning, immune-boosting, medicinal benefits of coconut AND loads of antioxidants and cancer-fighting perks from the matcha tea powder.
1 Coconut Green Tea Sachet, Harney and Sons Fine Teas
1 tsp. Matcha Green Tea Powder
3-4 Ounces 100% Coconut Milk (I get mine from the Asian Market. No additives, not watered down!)
Organic Lemon Extract, I use Flavorganics
Liquid Stevia, I use Skinny Girl
1. Fill your favorite mug about 2/3 full of water and steep tea sachet for the recommended 3 minutes. A latte ratio is 1:3 (1 part milk to three parts caffeinated deliciousness).
2. While tea is steeping, heat up coconut milk, add 6 to 8 drops of lemon extract. Slowly add liquid stevia until the milk is as sweet as you want it to be. WARNING, a little stevia goes a loooong way!
3. Using a bamboo wisk OR your trusty NutriBullet ;), prepare the matcha tea with your already brewed coconut green tea traditionally in a bowl, whisking until frothy, OR dump it in your NutriBullet. Pour back into mug.
4. Steam and froth the lemony-sweet coconut milk and pour into mug. Inhale the refreshing aroma and enjoy!
